Scouting Creighton (0-2-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST):
The Bluejays’ 2013 season got off to rough start, dropping back-to-back games on the road last weekend.  Creighton fell 3-0 at Utah State on Friday (Aug. 23), then dropped a 2-1 decision at Boise State on Sunday (Aug. 25). The loss to the Broncos specifically hurt as Creighton tied the match in the 82nd minute, only to surrender the game-winner at 86:27.

Freshman Paige Jarsombeck notched her first goal of the season in the loss at Boise State, knocking in a pass from sophomore Alissa Kohmetscher.

Scouting North Dakota (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Big Sky):
North Dakota dropped contests to Xavier (3-0) and Akron (4-1) last weekend, getting their lone goal from Zoe Foster.  Coming off a 2-13-1 record last season, North Dakota has not won a match on the road since Sept. 29, 2011 (2-1 in double overtime at Delaware State) a streak of 12 matches.

Scouting Northern Colorado (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Big Sky):
Northern Colorado also dropped both matches last weekend, falling to Colorado (8/23) and Denver (8/25) and by identical scores of 3-0.  The Bears last goal came in the second to last match of 2012, a scoreless streak of 320:43.

Jays in Home Openers
Creighton has an 13-7-4 mark in home openers all-time, including a 6-5-3 record under Bruce Erickson.  The Jays dropped a 1-0 (ot) match to Iowa State last season and fell to No. 4 Oklahoma State 1-0 in 2011. The last time the Jays claimed a home opener was in 2008, a 3-2 win over South Dakota State in double overtime

Danielle Rice Makes Bluejay History
Freshman Danielle Rice’s start in goal on Aug. 23 at Utah State was the first time since at least 1991 that Creighton has started a freshman in the net for the season opener.  (Stats for the first two seasons of women’s soccer1989 & 1990 are not available).

Speaking of History, It Favors the Jays
Creighton has opened a season 0-2-0 three previous times (1992, 2000 & 2004).  In each season the Jays won the third match.  In 2004, also the last time the Jays opened a year with consecutive road matches, the Bluejays evened their record with two straight wins at home the following weekend.  Creighton went on to finish 2004 with a 9-8-3 mark, including an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Jarsombeck Strikes First
Freshman Paige Jarsombeck tallied the first goal of the season for Creighton in the 2-1 loss at Boise State.  Jarsombeck is the first freshman to open the Jays scoring since Sarah Kendall did it in 2009.
