BLAINE, Minn. - The Creighton women's soccer team battled North Dakota State to a 1-1 tie in an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Down 1-0 early in the second period, junior Kelsey O'Donnell pulled the Jays even with 29:50 remaining as she blasted a pass from junior Lauren Cingoranelli into the back of the net.  Senior Gabriela Guillén initiated the play, finding Cingornelli open in the middle.

The Jays, however, were frustrated the remainder of the contest and forced to settle for the 1-1 tie.

Creighton fell behind early as North Dakota State capitalized on a corner in the sixth minute.  The Bison corner entry did not result in a shot, but NDSU's Brooklyn Dyce was able to gather possession before the ball was cleared, then rocketed a goal past Creighton's Katie Jo Swanson at the 5:40 mark.

Despite holding a 6-3 edge in shots during the first half, Creighton was unable to pull even in the first period, as the score remained 1-0 into the break.

The Jays outshot the Bison 14-4 in the match, limiting North Dakota State to just three shots on goal.

Swanson finished with two saves, while Sierra Bonham and Katie McCormick claimed three saves for the Bison.

"It was good to play against someone else today," said Creighton head coach Bruce Erickson.  "We had some great moments today on the attack, but the North Dakota State goalkeepers made some phenomenal plays to prevent two more goals."

The Bluejays will wrap up their exhibition season on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Minnesota State - Mankato at 5 p.m.
