(M) Cross Country Coaching Staff
Chas Davis
Head Coach
OMAHA, Neb. (May 12, 2009) Chas Davis has returned to his alma mater to be Creighton’s head men’s and women’s cross country coach. The appointment begins immediately.

Davis returns to Creighton after spending the past year as a volunteer assistant coach at Oregon State with its women’s cross country and track & field programs. While there he aided in the development of Oregon State’s nationally-ranked women’s cross country team.

He had spent the previous three years (2005-08) as an assistant men’s and women’s cross country coach at Creighton. During his previous stint at Creighton, Davis helped mentor John Krumsee to become the first runner to earn all-conference honors in school history in 2007. During that same season, Creighton finished a best-ever fourth place at the conference meet. Also under Davis’ guidance, school records were broken on the men’s (Peter Cole) and women’s (Megan Foste) side.

“Chas Davis is a great hire for us,” said CU Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen. “He knows the program’s history as both a former student-athlete and assistant coach here, and we feel that his leadership skills and knowledge of the sport will help him build an even more successful program.”

Originally from Centennial, Colo., Davis competed for CU from 2001-04 and earned team most inspirational and most valuable runner awards. During his senior season, Davis earned a spot on the MVC’s Scholar-Athlete First Team and won the CU/UNO Invitational. Davis served as a team captain in both 2003 and 2004 before graduating Cum Laude with a B.A. in public relations and news journalism in 2005 from Creighton.

He remains a competitive runner for Boulder Running Company Athletics Club, and is a past winner (2007) of the Omaha Corporate Cup. He owns personal bests of 14:41 for 5,000 meters and 31:06 for 10K on the roads.

"This opportunity to lead a program with so many outstanding and promising student-athletes is an honor I am privileged to have,” said Davis. “I couldn't be more excited to renew the direction and focus of a team that has meant so much to so many.

"The Creighton name is unparalleled. You attend to receive a first-rate education and graduate prepared to help lead a new generation. The cross country program will provide young aspiring distance runners an experience befitting of that Creighton name."

Davis replaces John Wissler, who resigned after six seasons in March.
