DES MOINES, Iowa – TheCreighton women’s tennis team posted four singles victories on day two of the Drake Jamboree held at the Bulldogs’ Knapp Tennis Center on Saturday.
CU freshman Katherine Nelsen claimed half of those wins but her opponents did not make it easy pushing each match out to a full three sets and extended tiebreaks. Nelsen held off Mia Frogner of SIU Edwardsville 6-4, 2-6, 13-11 in one battle. In a match against Drake’s Jordan Eggleston, Nelsen traded 6-1 sets before she secured the win 17-15 in a tiebreaker and staved off seven match points by the Bulldog.
Creighton sophomore Karlin Naslund also used three sets to dismiss Mckenzie Thomas of SIUE 6-2, 6-7, 10-5. Meanwhile, classmate Sam Anderson defeated Kali Donner of SIUE 6-4, 6-3.
All eight Bluejays on the active roster played at least one singles match and one doubles contest on the opening day.
The Creighton women’s and men’s tennis teams have concluded their individual fall seasons. Dual matches will begin for the Bluejays in early 2014.
