CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Creighton women's tennis team fell 7-0 to first-place Southern Illinois in a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) match at the Salukis’ University Courts on Saturday afternoon.
Creighton (8-10, 1-5 MVC) could not manage a point at Southern Illinois (17-3, 6-0 MVC). SIU won all three doubles contests before sweeping the singles matches.
CU senior Anna Kirshenbaum led the Bluejays on the day with a three-set singles setback and a close doubles downfall.
Kirshenbaum and freshman partner Sam Anderson fell 8-5 in at No. 2 doubles to the Saluki duo of Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima. At No. 3 singles Kirshenbaum split a pair of 6-4 results in the first two sets before dropping a third-set superbreaker to SIU’s Anita Lee.
At No. 6 singles Creighton sophomore Taylor Koehrsen pushed Anastacia Simons of SIU to a tiebreaker in set one before falling 7-6. Simons closed out the match in the second. Creighton sophomore Amanda Noonan pressured her opponent into extra games in set one on court five before Dien claimed a 7-5, 6-0 decision for SIU.
Creighton concludes the 2013 regular season at Evansville Sunday morning at 10 a.m. CT.
