WICHITA, Kan. (Oct. 5) - The Creighton women's tennis team advanced all three doubles teams into the semifinals during the opening day of the MVC Women's Tennis Individual Championship hosted by Wichita State Friday.
Creighton's doubles pairings earned semifinal berths in each of the three doubles flights of the three-day individual tournament. Additionally, sophomore Jennie Hartjes moved into the semifinals in singlesflight one to lead the CU singles contingent.
Hartjes teamed up with senior Anna Kirshenbaum to topple Illinois State 8-6 in a first round flight one doubles match. The Jays faceNorthern Iowa on Saturday for the right to advance to the final.
In flight two, the Creighton tandem of sophomore Amanda Noonan and freshman Sam Anderson held off Evansville in extra games, 9-7, to advance to the semifinals. The Jays battle a host team from Wichita State on day two.
Creighton junior Analese Snyder and freshman Karlin Naslund paired up to blank Bradley 8-0 in a first round match. The Bluejays face Wichita State in the semis on Saturday.
In flight one singles action, Hartjes led the Jays with a first round defeat of Bradley's Sarah Rodefeld 6-1, 6-3. The Jay serves against Melanie Delsart of Southern Illinois, a three-set winner, on Saturday.
Four other Bluejay players split a pair of singles matches on day one of the event.
The Jays continue play on Saturday and wrap up the tourney on Sunday.
