Release: 09/14/2012
DES MOINES, Iowa -- A pair of wins by the sophomore doubles team of Taylor Koehrsen and Amanda Noonan highlighted the Creighton Women's Tennis team at the Drake Fall Invitational on Friday.

This is the first fall competition of the season for the Jays.

"We played pretty solid doubles today and we are ahead of where we normally are for the first tournament of the season," said CU head coach Tom Lilly. "It was great to see the girls in action and for Karlin and Sam to get their first collegiate wins."

Koehrsen and Noonan were one of four Bluejay tandems to see action, but the only one to finish the day undefeated. The duo beat UNO's Heather Hottman and Lindsay Wiedeman by an 8-4 score to open the tournament, then beat Northern Illinois' Stephanie McDonald and Maria Rozo by an 8-4 margin. Koehrsen and Noonan will play for the Flight C title on Saturday against Drake's Maddie Johnson and Lea Kozulic.

Also in Flight C, Karlin Naslund made her collegiate debut while being paired with sophomore Liz Vermillion. They lost to Johnson & Kozulic by an 8-2 score before topping North Dakota's Sarah Stejskal and Megan Sween, 8-4. They'll play for the consolation title in Flight C on Saturday against South Dakota's Nina Barudzic and Maddy Warder.

In Flight A of doubles play, freshman Sam Anderson and sophomore Jennie Hartjes fell to Wichita State's Montse Blasco Fernandez and Rebecca Pedrazzi, 8-5. Anderson and Hartjes would regroup to top North Dakota's Stephanie Petsis and Hallie Welk, 8-2. They'll play for the consolation title in Flight A on Saturday against South Dakota's Michelle Elkin and Hafsa Laraibi.

In Flight B of doubles play, junior Analese Snyder and senior Anna Kirshenbaum beat Northern Illinois' Cristina Alvarez and Haley Dekkinga (8-5) before dropping an 8-6 heartbreaker to Drake's Nell Boyd & Ali Patterson.

Play at the Drake Fall Invitational continues on Saturday in Des Moines at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
