OMAHA, Neb. - For the fifth straight season, both the Creighton men's and women's tennis teams have earned All-Academic Team honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Eight members of the women's team and six members of the 2012 men's team were also named individual ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The combined 14 members to earn Scholar-Athlete accolades places Creighton in a tie for third in the nation, with just Butler (16) and Fairley Dickinson (15) ahead of the Bluejays, Brown and Gonzaga, each with 14.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
A team must hold a cumulative 3.20 grade point average or above (on a 4.0 scale), with all players who have competed in one or more varsity matches counting into the GPA average for the current year (including fall 2011 and spring 2012).
The Bluejays are coached by Tom Lilly, who recently completed his 15th season at the helm of Creighton tennis.
