OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's tennis team dropped their first match in four straight, falling 5-2 to Arkansas Little Rock on Thursday afternoon. Creighton won the doubles point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, but then fell in straight sets in five of the six singles matches.
Kelsey Schmidt and Jennie Hartjes started play by defeating Viktoriya Plyuta and Yana Kakovkina 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles. Analese Snyder and Taylor Koehrsen then teamed up to defeat Nina Yates and Alina Kolegova 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles to give Creighton the 1-0 lead. UALR broke up the doubles sweep, as Michaela McShane and Veronique Luksich defeated Mary McMullan and Elizabeth Vermillion 8-6.
McMullan won the lone match in singles play, defeating Michaela McShane 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles, before the Trojans claimed wins at every other spot. Viktoriya Plyuta defeated Hartjes 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 spot before Veronique Luksich downed Schmidt 6-1, 6-4 in No. 2 singles.
Yana Kakovkina defeated Snyder in No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Nina Yates downed Vermillion 6-4, 6-2 in No. 5 singles. To close out play, Alina Kolegova posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Koehrsen at the No. 6 singles.
The Bluejays will be back in action on Sunday, when they open Missouri Valley Conference play by hosting Wichita State. The two teams will meet at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center, with first serve set for 11:00 am.
