DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Creighton men's tennis team opened its fall season with four teams competing in doubles action at the Drake Fall Invitational in Des Moines on Friday.
Creighton's best results came in Flight "C" of the doubles
competition, where the Jays had a pair of teams compete. After losing their opening match, Anthony Rauschenbach and
Nick Thompson would close the day with wins over North Dakota's David
Bergstrom and Jared Vigen (8-3), then defeat Gustavus Adolphus' Mitch Elorson and Bryan Miles (8-3).
Also in Flight C doubles, Elliott Baker and August Nysted shok off an opening-round loss to down Elorson & Miles by a 9-7 count, then triumphed over Bergstrom & Vigen by an 8-2 score.
Creighton's No. 1 doubles team of Sean Mathison and Billy Paluch fell twice, losing to two different teams from Drake.
Brandon Lee and Ryan Norman finished in fourth place at in the "B" flight of doubles action. The duo defeated Iowa's Alejandro Rios and Rob Trower by an 8-6 count before falling to Gustavus Adolophus' Motasam Al-Houni/Juan Luis Chu by an identical margin. Lee and Norman then fell to Northern Colorado's Ben Gendron & Jordan Loughnan by an 8-2 score.
Singles play at the Drake Fall Invitational will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
