KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In the first action since the Spring break trip, the Creighton men's tennis team fell to UMKC 6-1. The Jays won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches, but fell in every singles match.
J.T. Christian and Billy Paluch started off the doubles, winning the No. 1 doubles, defeating Nino Hasandedic and Grant Fleming 8-6. Ryan Norman and Gabe Nagy won at the No. 3 doubles, defeating Serge Ristivojevic and David Heckler 8-4. The Kangaroos did defeat the jays at the No. 2 doubles, with Gustavo Guerin and Cameron Schoenhofer defeating Kyle Obermeier and Sean Mathison 8-7.
The Kangaroos won every singles match in straight sets as the Jays didn't push anything to three sets. Paluch put up a close battle with Hasandedic, falling 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 1 singles. Christian fell in same score sets, 6-2, 6-2, to Grant Fleming at the No. 2 singles spot.
Obermeier fell 6-3, 6-3 to Ristivojevic in the No. 3 singles while Lube was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Alawadhi at the No. 4 singles spot. To close out the singles competition, Guerin defeated Nagy 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 singles and Schoenhofer defeated Norman 6-4, 7-6 in the No. 6 singles.
The Jays will be back in action tomorrow when they welcome MVC foe Drake to Omaha. The two teams will play at Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center, with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
