ORLANDO, Fla. - The Creighton men's tennis team (5-3, 0-1) traveled to Orlando, Fla., for the Spring break portion of its schedule. The Jays took on Mount St. Mary's University in the opening match for the week, defeating the Mount 6-1 and winning all three doubles games to earn the point from doubles.
In doubles competition, the Jays came out on top of the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, both which were very close games. J.T. Christian and Billy Paluch defeated Matthew Blake and Taylor Place 8-5 in the No. 1 position, while Ryan Norman and Bryan Lube defeated Mike Soloman and Mike Zabetakis 8-6. Kyle Obermeier and Sean Mathison completed the sweep, defeating Patrick Plastow and Andrew Marinucci 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles.
The Jays won all of the singles matches but one, with the only match going to three sets the No. 2 singles which the Mount won. In No. 1 singles, Paluch defeated Matthew Blake 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets, but Christian fell 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Mike Saloman in the No. 2 singles.
The No. 3 through 6 singles lost just 18 sets, dropping their Mount opponents in straight sets in each singles spot. In No. 3 singles, Obermeier defeated Mike Zabetakis 6-1, 6-2, followed by Gaby Nagy taking out Taylor Place 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles. Lube defeated Patric Plastow 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles and Norman won the No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1 over Andrew Marinucci.
