NORMAL, Ill. - The Creighton men's tennis team ran into a team clicking on all cylinders on Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 at Illinois State. The loss drops Creighton to 8-6 on the season, 0-2 in conference play while the Redbirds improve to 7-10, 1-0 in The Valley.
"We hope to play to play better tomorrow," said head coach Tom Lilly who sits at 299 career wins at Creighton. "We will look to have some positive results against a very strong Bradley team."
Creighton fell in all three doubles matches on Friday. Tuomas Manner and Will Peter defeated Ryan Norman and Billy Paluch 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles to lead off play, followed by an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles by Skip Span and Jordan Badenko over Elliott Baker and Sean Mathison. In the closest of the three matches, Alexander Pelaez and Jusso Ojanen defeated J.T. Christian and Kyle Obermeier 8-7 in the No. 1 doubles.
Just one singles match went to three sets, as Baker forced a third set at No. 6 after splitting the first two. Baker fell 2-6. 6-0. 6-0 to Jordan Badenko. In No. 1 singles, Paluch fell 7-5, 6-3 to Alexander Pelaez followed by Tuomas Manner defeating Christian 6-4, 6-2 at the Nol 2 singles.
Span defeated Obermeier 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 3 singles, while Jusso Ojanen defeated Mathison 6-1, 6-3 in No. 4 singles. Will Peter closed out play by defeating Gabe Nagy 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles.
Creighton will take on Bradley tomorrow afternoon before returning home for the Easter holiday. First serve is set for 11:00 am.
