DES MOINES, Iowa - The Creighton men's tennis team dropped its opening match of the MVC regular season, falling 7-0 at Drake on Saturday. The Bluejays fall to 8-5 on the season, 0-1 in conference play while Drake improves to 18-2, 1-0 in the MVC.
The Bulldogs swept through doubles play, with Creighton dropping all three doubles matches for just the second time this season. Cesar Bracho and Alen Salibasic defeated Sean Mathison and Ryan Norman 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles before Anis Ghorbel and James McKie downed Kyle Obermeier and Billy Paluch 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles. Jean Erasmus and Robin Goodman finished out doubles ply by downing Elliott Baker and J.T. Christian 8-5 in the No. 3 spot.
Creighton was also swept in singles play, falling in straight-sets to the #46 team in the NCAA. McKie defeated Christian 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles, followed by Jonathan Hadash upending Gabe Nagy 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.
Salibasic defeated Mathison 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles before Ghorbel won the No. 1 singles with straight 6-1, 6-1 wins over Paluch. Ben Mullis won the No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Baker and Erasmus finished play with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Obermeier in the No. 3 singles.
Creighton returns to action next weekend, when they travel to Illinois State to take on Illinois State (April 6) and Bradley (April 7).
