Men's Tennis Falls in Close Match to Idaho, 4-3

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's tennis team looked to bounce back following their first loss of the spring season, but lost a heartbreaker to Idaho 4-3 on Monday afternoon.  The Bluejays won the doubles point, and went ahead 3-1 before the Vandals came back to win the final three points to take the match.

Creighton took two of three matches in doubles play, winning the final two to earn the lone point from doubles play.  After Marius Cirstea and Abid Akbar downed Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian 8-5 in the No. 1 singles, Sean Mathison and Ryan Norman ousted Andrew Dobbs and Alan Shin 8-6 in No. 3 singles.  To close out play Elliott Baker and Kyle Obermeier outdueled Juse Bendeck and Cristobol Ramos Salazar 8-6 at No. 2 doubles.

The Bluejays went up 2-0 when Paluch defeated Marius Cirstea 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles.  Cristobol Ramos Salazar brought the Vandals within one, defeating Norman 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles. 

Obermeier then earned what would be Creighton's final point of the day, defeating Jose Bendeck 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles.  Alan Shin defeated Gabe Nagy 6-1, 7-6 in the No. 5 singles to pull the match to 3-2, Creighton.

Idaho outlasted Creighton in the final two singles matches, earning the win in three-set matches at both No. 2 and No. 6 positions.  Abid Akbar defeated Christian 1-6, 7-6, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles and then Andrew Dobbs defeated Baker 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to end the match.

The Bluejays will next be in action the first week in March when they travel to Orlando, Florida for a spring break trip.  Both the Creighton men's and women's teams will make the trip.
