OMAHA, Neb. - For the first time since the 2007 season, the Creighton men's tennis team sits at 3-0 on the season, following a 7-0 sweep of South Dakota State on Saturday.  The Bluejays won all three doubles matches and then swept through the singles play to earn the win.

"I thought we played slightly tentative in doubles play," said head coach Tom Lilly.  "We could have played a little better but won some big points to keep the match in our favor.  We also turned it on in singles and played pretty strong."

Sean Mathison and Ryan Norman led things off at the No. 3 doubles, taking care of Christian Maki and Morgan Salo 8-3.  No. 2 doubles was a little closer, as Kyle Obermeier and Elliott Baker broke serve to earn an 8-5 win over Justin Pyle and Dominic Rossetto.  In the closest match of the three doubles, Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian downed Parker Lawley and James Thorp 9-8 in the No. 1 doubles.

Creighton controlled singles play, as they defeated the Jackrabbits in straight sets in five of the six singles matches.  Paluch defeated Justin Pyle 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles and Obermeier downed Dominic Rossetto 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles.

Christian outworked Parker Lawlley in the No. 3 singles, claiming a close 7-6, 6-4 win.  In the lone three-set match of singles play, Norman defeated James Thorp 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles.

Finishing out the day was Gabe Nagy defeating Alejandro Marin 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 singles and Baker downing Christian Maki 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 6 singles.

"While we are happy with our start, we play the Huskers tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.  We will need to talk in the morning to prepare, but I know our guys will come out fired up and ready" said Lilly.
