Women's Golf Finishes 13th at Monterey Bay Invitational

MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 13th at the Monterey Bay Invitational on Tuesday. The three-day tournament took place at the Par 72, 6,018 yard Del Monte Golf Course.

Among the 14 teams participating were Nebraska-Omaha, Wichita State, Illinois State, and  tournament co-hosts Drake and Missouri State.

Creighton finished with a team score of 1,045 (353-345-347). Wichita State (326-302-299=927) took team medalist honors, while Columbia (321-309-300=930) finished second and Missouri State (303-307-321=931) rounded out the top three.

Individually the Jays’ top three golfers were freshmen. Rachel Thompson had the best tournament for the Jays, she finished 62nd with a 257. Fellow freshman Mary Cathryn Rau finished 67th with a 261. Katie Morel shot a 270 and finished 73rd. Sophomore Emily Allison rounded out the team scoring for the Jays by finishing one spot behind Morel with a 272.

The Jays return to action on April 9th when they compete in the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Chandler, Ariz.
