ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two top-15 finishers helped the Creighton women's golf team finish sixth at the Sunshine Spring Classic. The 10-team, 58-golfer event took place at the par 72, 6,008 yard Rio Pinar Country Club.
Creighton finished the two day tournament with a 654 (325, 329). Lehigh finished first shooting a 623 (309, 314). Seminole State Community College finished second (320-311=631) and Missouri Valley rival Indiana State (333-309=642) finished tied for third with the host school Detroit (313-329=642).
Rachel Thompson was the top golfer for the Jays. The freshman finished eighth overall with a 156 (77, 79). Junior Celeste Gassman finished tied for 13th shooting a 158 (76, 82). Freshman Mary Cathryn Rau was the third best Creighton golfer finishing 33rd overall with a 169 (85, 84).
Junior Jill Stuckenschneider finished 39th overall with a 173 (87, 86) and freshman Katie Morel finished tied for 47th shooting a 176 (92, 84). Sophomore Emily Allison finished 55th with a 183 (91, 92) while participating as an individual.
The women continue their tour of warm weather states when they visit Monterey, Calif. for the Del Monte Invitational on March 18.
