SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Creighton women's golf team finished in 10th place at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial on Tuesday. The 11-team competition was held at the par-72, 6,079 yard Rivercut Golf Course.
MVC rival and tournament host Missouri State finished first, shooting rounds of 302-306-301=909, and was followed by UMKC with rounds of 304-309-314=926.
As a team Creighton shot rounds of 332-330-332=994.
Celeste Gassman finished first for the Jays. The junior’s rounds of 76-76-73=225 left her in a three way tie for first with Missouri State’s Hermine Greyling and Indiana State’s McCall Christopher. This is the highest finish of Gassman’s career. Greyling won a sudden death playoff on the first hole to take individual honors.
Katie Morel was the second best golfer on the day for the Jays. The freshman shot rounds of 83-82-85=250 which was good for a tie for 43rd. Fellow freshman Rachel Thompson finished in a tie for 51st with rounds of 84-84-87=255.
Freshman Mary Cathryn Rau (89-88-87=264) and sophomore Emily Allison (89-90-92=271) also had strong showings for the Jays.
This was the last competition for the Jays this fall. They will return to the links in the spring.
