Gassman Leads Women's Golf To Sixth Place at Huskie Classic

DeKALB, Ill. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished sixth at the 27th Annual Huskie Classic on Monday. The 12-team, 36-hole event was held at the par 73, 6,015-yard Kishwaukee Country Club. 

As team Creighton shot 334-342=676 which was just one shot behind fifth place Missouri-St. Louis. The host team Northern Illinois University finished seventh. SIU Edwardsville won the classic with rounds of 328-318=646. University of Detroit-Mercy’s Lindsey Lammers finished first overall with a score of 82-72=154.

For the second time in as many events, Celeste Gassman led the way for the Jays. The junior finished tied for seventh overall with rounds of 75-87=162. She had the lowest first-round score of any golfer at the classic.  Freshman Rachel Thompson was the Jays second-best golfer. She shot rounds of 84-81=165 which placed her tied for 15th.

Freshman Mary Cathryn Rau finished tied for 38th with rounds of 88-86=174. Katie Morel also had a good outing for the Jays. The Overland Park, Kan., native shot 87-88=175 which left her tied for 42nd.

The Jays hit the links again Oct. 17-18 at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo.
