Women's Golf Takes 12th at Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invite

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Creighton women's golf team finished 12th at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday. The 12-team event was hosted by Kansas State University at the par-72, 6,181 yard Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan, Kan. As a team Creighton shot rounds of 317-327-324=968.

The University of Arkansas-Little Rock won the team division. UALR's Malin Lundberg placed first overall with a score of 70-70-77=217.

Celeste Gassman led the Jays finishing tied for 33rd overall. The junior shot rounds of 78-81-76=235. Her third round score of 76 was the lowest round of any Creighton golfer on the day. Council Bluffs, Iowa native Taylor Hill finished tied for 50th (79-84-80=243). Freshman Rachel Thompson was the third-best Creighton golfer finishing tied for 55th (79-78-88=245).

Freshmen Mary Cathryn Rau (82-85-83=250) and Katie Morel (81-84-85=250) both finished tied for 61st.

The Jays are back in action again on Oct. 2-3 at the NIU Huskie Classic in DeKalb, Ill.
