Kersenbrock Leads Women's Golf at Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational

Maggie Kersenbrock led the Jays for the third time in four events this fall.

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Creighton women's golf team finished 12th at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., on Tuesday. The Jays recorded rounds of 331, 342 and 339 for a 1013 total in the two-day, three-round event held at the par-72, 6,279-yard Alvamar Public Golf Course. Host Kansas won the tournament.

The Jays were led by senior Maggie Kersenbrock for the third time in four events this fall. She put together rounds of 77, 85 and 84 for a 30-over-par 246 total, good for a tie for 47th place. The tournament's individual champion was Grace Thiry from Kansas, who shot a 219.

Creighton's next-best finisher was senior Maggy Hejlek. She tied for 56th after rounds of 82, 84 and 85. Next for the Jays was sophomore Jill Stuckenschneider who finished 64th with a 54-hole total of 260. Rounding out the lineup for the Jays were senior Ashley Norris (84-92-86-262) and sophomore Celeste Gassman (89-89-84-262). They both tied for 65th.

The Jays are back in action Oct. 10 and 11 at the NIU Invitational in Huntley, Ill.
