IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Creighton women's golf team, paced by a tie for 11th place from senior Ashley Norris, ended the Hawkeye Invitational in eighth place on Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. The Jays recorded scores of 328, 328 and 321 in the three rounds played over two days on the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course. The host Iowa Hawkeyes won the event with a 54-hole total of 926.
Norris led the Jays for the first time this year. She used rounds of 77, 78 and 81 for a 20-over-par 236 three-round total. The individual champion was North Dakota State's Amy Anderson, who shot a 2-under 214.
Creighton's next-best finisher was senior Maggy Hejlek. She carded rounds of 83, 80 and 76 and finished in a tie for 15th. The three other golfers who were entered in the team competition for Creighton were senior Maggie Kersenbrock (84-84-79-247), sophomore Celeste Gassman (83-87-85-255) and freshman Emily Allison (105-91-92-288). Creighton's Jill Stuckenschneider (90-91-93-274) competed as an individual.
The Jays are off until Sept. 27 and 28 when they compete in the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
