Women's Golf Opens Fall With Tie vs. UNI
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's golf team tied Northern Iowa in a dual meet to open the Fall 2012 season on Tuesday afternoon at Omaha Country Club.
The MVC rivals played a variety of formats in what has become an annual match-up with the Panthers, as stroke play, match play, best ball and alternate shot formats all factored into the final meet scoring, which ended in an 8-8 deadlock.
The teams played 18 holes in the morning session, which had UNI owning a 6.5 - 5.0 lead. Winning the morning matches for CU were freshmen Maddy Albers and Shauna Hill, as well as senior Celeste Gassman and sophomore Mary Cathryn Rau.
In the afternoon, the teams played nine holes with an alternate shot/best ball format. Creighton won that session, 3.0 - 1.5. Creighton's winning teams including Rau partnering with Albers, as well as the tandem of Katie Morel and Grace Yowell.
Creighton returns to the course on Sept. 10-11 in Lincoln, Neb., when it plays in the Chip-N Club Invitational.
