OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton women's golf team sits in fifth place after round one of
the Creighton Golf Classic. The Bluejays posted a 338 and sit seven shots behind
Missouri Valley rival Drake for fourth place in the 14-team, 82-golfer field. Northern Iowa has surged ahead of
the pack posting a 307. The Panthers are followed by Southern Illinois (324) and South
Dakota State (325).
Brittany Atterbury of Northern Iowa (72) has opened up a
two-shot lead over two-time defending meet champion Amy Anderson of North Dakota
State. Atterbury’s teammate Blair Bonner is currently third with a 75.
Celeste Gassman is leading the Bluejays strong start. The junior is tied for fourth with Southern
Illinois’ Cassie Rushing with a 77. Junior Jill Stuckenschneider is tied for 26th
with an 85. Tied for 30th is freshman Rachel Thompson with an 86. Freshman
Katie Morel is tied for 52nd after shooting a 90 and classmate Mary Cathryn
Rau is tied for 66th with a 94.
Participating as in individual for the Jays is Emily
Allison. The sophomore is tied for 59th with a 92
The Creighton Golf Classic is taking place at the par-72 6,084
yard Oak Hills Country Club (12325 Golfing Green Drive). The second and final round begins at 8:30 am on Tuesday.
