OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton University golfer Kevin Stanek won the 44th Nebraska Golf Association Men's Match Play Championship on Saturday with a dominating 8 & 7 victory over Wesley Bernt at Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg.

Stanek birdied eight holes and added an ace on the par-3 11th hole to make the turn with a commanding seven-hole stroke play lead at the midway point of the 36-hole final.  Stanek also birdied the 25th and 27th holes before closing out Bernt with yet another birdie on the 29th hole of the second round.

This was the second straight weekend that Stanek picked up a win, as one week earlier he won the Michelob Amateur Golf Tournament at Riverside Golf Club in Grand Island by eight shots.

A native of Bellevue, Neb., Stanek will be a senior on the Creighton men's golf team in the fall. He is coached at Creighton by Chris Wiemers.
