JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Led by a third-place finish from junior Austin Miller, the Creighton men's golf team finished in a tie for sixth place at the Don Benbow Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., on Tuesday. The Jays carded team rounds of 299 and 311 to finish with a 610 total at the par-71, 6,566-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Club. Missouri Valley Conference foe Bradley also recorded a 610, while Appalachian State and IUPUI tied for first with a score of 585.
Miller shot a one-under-par 70 in the first round, his team-leading fourth round of par or better in 2010-11, dating back to the fall season. He coupled that with a second-round 74, and finished with a two-over 144.
Creighton's next-best finisher was junior Kevin Stanek. He recorded rounds of 72 and 74 en route to a tie for eighth place. Bluejays junior Ben Lowman fired rounds of 75 and 84 to finish tied for 49th, while sophomore John Rasmussen tied for 51st with rounds of 78 and 82. Creighton's scoring was capped off by junior Jack Dressen, who shot back-to-back rounds of 81 and finished in a tie for 60th.
The Jays are back on the course March 23-25 at the Lamkin Grip Match Play Championship in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
