Men's Golf Takes Second in Dual vs. Nebraska
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Nebraska men's golf team defeated the Creighton men's golf team by 19 strokes in a Wednesday dual at Omaha Country Club between the state's only two Division I programs. Nebraska shot an even-par 284, with Creighton not far behind at 303.
The teams played from the Gold tees at the par-71 course that measured 6,746 yards.
Leading all participants were Creighton's Kevin Stanek and Nebraska's Scott Willman. Both men fired 70's in their first round of the 2010-11 season, and in Stanek's case, his debut with the Bluejays.
Nebraska fired an even-par 284, 19 shots ahead of Creighton, to win the team competition. In addition to the 70 by Willman, Mike Coatman and Austin Zimmerman both shot 71's, while Andrew Wyatt turned in a 72. Besides the 70 from Stanek, Creighton's Jimmy Zuegner and John Rasmussen both came in with 77's, while Collin Craft and Austin Miller each shot 79's.
The teams also had nine players gain meet experience while playing as individuals, though those figures did not count towards the team score. Top performers among those individuals were Nebraska's Brett Nymeyer (71) and Creighton's Ryan Herter (77).
Creighton returns to action on Sept. 13-14 when it heads to Nebraska City, Neb., to play in the Fairway Club Invitational. That meet wlll be played on Arbor Links Golf Course.
