MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Creighton men’s golf team finished fifth at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The competition was held at the par-72 7,525 yard Colbert Hills Golf Course. The field featured the Jays, Drake, Nebraska Omaha and Southern Illinois among the 10 teams participating in the event.
Host school Kansas State finished first with a 901, while Idaho (912) and Valparaiso (938) finished second and third respectively. Missouri State’s Daily Young was the top overall golfer with a 219.
The Jays scored a 949 and were led by Daniel McKernan. The junior finished tied for eighth with a 228. Junior Trey Turley finished tied for 17th with a 236. A couple spots behind Turley was Johnny Spellerberg. The sophomore finished tied for 19th shooting a 238. Senior Ben Lowman (47th, 251) and junior Colin Craft (T-52, 257) completed the Jays top five.
Competing as an individual, freshman Steffen Lake finished 55th shooting a 269.
It will be a short rest for the Jays as they compete Oct. 8-9 at the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
