ARLINGTON, Texas -- Alexis Cantu fired a four-hit shutout and Creighton Softball scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh in a 1-0 walk-off victory over Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon at the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational.
Creighton improved to 4-4 heading into its 4:30 pm game vs. UT Arlington this evening, while Texas Tech dropped to 10-5.
Creighton scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Allie Reinhart reached via an error to start the Bluejay rally, then moved to second base on a wild pitch and was replaced by pinch-runner Erin McGonigal. Following a five-pitch walk to Jessica Lewis, Texas Tech pulled starting pitcher Gretchen Aucoin in favor of Cara Custer.
Custer's first pitch saw Kelsey Allender bunt both runners 60 feet before the Red Raiders intentionally walked Blair Lowe to load the bases with one out. The decision backfired when McGonigal beat the throw home on a Liz Dike ground ball to second baseman Lea Hopson, CU's first run in nearly 12 innings dating back to Friday.
Cantu (2-0) yielded just four hits and four walks, and has yet to allow a run in 11.1 innings of work. It marked the senior's third career shutout.
Aucoin (3-1, 0.43 ERA) was handed the loss. She allowed two hits and five walks while striking out nine of the 21 women she faced.
