Judkins Moves to Volunteer Assistant, Furlong Added to Baseball Staff
OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton Baseball head coach Ed Servais announced former Bluejay Nick Judkins will return in 2013-14 as the volunteer assistant coach, while Brian Furlong joined the staff as a volunteer director of baseball operations on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
After serving as an undergraduate assistant coach in 2012-13, Judkins will transition into the Jays' volunteer assistant coach role this season. Judkins played for Servais in 2011 & 2012, appearing in a combined 119 games over two season. He led Creighton with a .313 average in 2012, earning the Rawlings Gold Glove for his play at first base.
Judkins replaces former teammate Shane Liska, who accepted the volunteer assistant position at Pittsburgh. A Pittsburgh native, Liska served as the Jays volunteer assistant last season and pitched for the Jays in 2012.
Furlong will begin his first administrative role in collegiate baseball as the volunteer director of baseball operations. His primary role will be to work with Creighton baseball camps. Furlong played at Iowa State in 2001, Creighton in 2003 and completed his playing days at Iowa in 2004-05. Furlong was recognized academically in all three conferences. He was a Big 12 Scholar Athlete (2001), a Missouri Valley Conference Scholar Athlete (2003) and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree with the Hawkeyes. Furlong graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in political science with an emphasis in American institutions. Following graduation, Furlong has owned or operated baseball academies in Iowa City.
