CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Jonas Dufek was Creighton's lone representative on the All-Corvallis Regional Team, which was announced Sunday night after host Oregon State won the Regional with a 6-4 win over Georgia. Dufek, a right-handed pitcher from Omaha, defeated Georgia on Friday with a complete-game five-hitter while lifting the Bluejays to a 2-1 victory.
Dufek is the first Bluejay pitcher named to an all-Regional team since Eric Wordekemper in 2005.
Oregon State All-American pitcher Sam Gaviglio, who threw a five-hit gem of his own to beat Creighton on Saturday in a winner's bracket game, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Regional. He allowed just one run while setting an OSU postseason record with 11 strikeouts of the Bluejays in OSU's 5-1 win.
Gaviglio was one of seven Beavers named to the all-tournament team, including catcher Andrew Susac, first baseman Parker Berberet, third baseman Carter Bell and outfielders Brian Stamps, Garrett Nash and Ryan Barnes.
Levi Hyams of Georgia was named the all-tournament second baseman, while his teammate Kyle Farmer claimed the shortstop position. UALR's Jason Houston earned designated hitter honors.
Named a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Thursday, Dufek ended his senior season leading the Missouri Valley Conference in wins (12), strikeouts (128) and ERA (2.08), as well as opposing batting average (.198) and innings pitched (112.2). He entered play on Sunday tied for fifth nationally in both wins and strikeouts. He was also named MVP of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament on May 28th after going 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA and leading Creighton to its second-ever tournament crown.
