Baseball Earns Top-25 Recognition in Multiple Polls
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton baseball team is ranked in three of college baseball's four most prominent polls as it enters NCAA Tournament play on Friday. Creighton (44-14) plays Georgia (31-30) on Friday in Corvallis, Ore., on the campus of Oregon State University.
Creighton is ranked 25th in the Collegiate Baseball Poll, the nation's oldest poll, and the one used by Creighton Athletics for ranking purposes. Creighton was tabbed 28th by Collegiate Baseball on April 18th, only to go 1-3 the following week and disappear from the rankings until now. This is the highest Creighton has been ranked by the paper since May 28, 2007, when the Bluejays were tabbed 22nd after winning its first MVC Tournament title. Potential Regional opponent Oregon State is ranked 13th in Collegiate Baseball's poll.
In the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll, Creighton maintained the No. 25 spot in the poll for the second straight week. Oregon State is ranked 16th, while Georgia is among several teams receiving votes. This is the ninth straight week and 12th time in 13 weeks that the Bluejays have received votes in the coaches poll.
In the National College Baseball Writers Association poll, Creighton moved up one spot to 26th. In that poll, Oregon State is 18th.
Creighton is not ranked in this week's Baseball America poll, while Oregon State is 15th in that poll.
