Bluejay Baseball Suffers 8-2 Loss to Kansas State

OMAHA, Neb. - Despite a two-run bomb from senior Mike Gerber, the Creighton baseball team suffered a 8-2 loss to Kansas State on Sunday, March 30.

The loss dropped the Bluejays to 12-9-1 on the season, while Kansas State moved to 17-10 overall.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, Creighton seized a 2-1 lead on senior Mike Gerber's fifth home run of the season.  With one out in the inning, junior Jake Peter set the scene with a single up the middle.  Gerber sent the second pitch of his at-bat over the opposite field wall in left-center.

Kansas State, however, responded with three runs in the top of the fourth to reclaim the lead at 4-2.

The Wildcats added a single run in the sixth and put the game away with three runs in the ninth.

Creighton starter Taylor Elman suffered the loss (1-3), allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings, while Kansas State's Nate Griep earned his third win of the year (3-0) by holding Creighton to two runs on seven hits in seven innings.

Despite the loss, Creighton got five hits from the middle of its order as Peter finished 3-for-4 and Gerber was 2-for-3.

Creighton returns to action on Monday, March 31 as the Bluejays face UNLV in a single game at 6:30 pm.
