OMAHA, Neb. - Another shutdown performance by the Bluejay bullpen led the Creighton Baseball team to a 3-1 win over South Dakota State on Saturday, March 15.
Six Relievers combined to toss five innings of scoreless relief in Creighton's win to push the Bluejays to 9-5-1 in 2014, while South Dakota State fell to 9-10 overall.
The Jackrabbits hopped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Zach Coppola reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scampered home on an RBI single from Paul Jacobson.
Creighton starter, Austin Groth, held South Dakota State to just one run in the first and held the line through the fourth inning. The offense got on the board in the bottom of the third via a manufactured run. Freshman Nicky Lopez opened the frame with a sharp single to left, then took second on a sacrifice from sophomore Ryan Fitzgerald.
The Bluejays and Jackrabbits will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, March 16 at 1 pm.
