OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton baseball program has announced the signing of five players to national letters of intent for the 2015 season on Monday, Dec. 2. Josh Baumgart (Sioux Falls, S.D.), Grant Farrell (Centennial, Colo.), Devlin Granberg (Hudson, Colo.), Ryan Leuty (Shoreview, Minn.) and Keith Rogalla (Oak Park, Ill.) will join the Bluejays next fall.
“I want to thank our assistants coaches ( Spencer Allen & Tom Lipari) on the great job they did in filling the needs with our 2014 recruiting class," said Creighton head coach Ed Servais. "We always set out to continue to add depth to our pitching staff and I feel we did that. Playing our home games at TD Ameritrade we needed to get more athletic and I feel we did that with the signing of our two high school outfielders. I'm very pleased to have these five recruits join our program in the fall of 2014.”
A 5-11 right-hander pitcher from Roosevelt HS in Sioux Falls, S.D., Baumgart was a 2013 Class A First Team All-State hurler. He closed the season with a 0.52 ERA, recording 39 strikeouts in 27 innings and allowing just eight walks. Baumgart posted a 4-0 record with one save, allowing just 13 hits in 27 innings as a junior. The previous season (2012), he pitched in the Class A State Championship game.
Farrell, a 6-3 outfielder, has been a three-year starter at Cherry Creek HS in Centennial, Colo. He led his squad to a combined 45-7 record during his sophomore and junior seasons, capturing the 2012 5A State Title team. As a junior, Farrell received All-State Honorable Mention from the Denver Post, hitting .365 with 16 RBI, 21 runs scored and a .444 slugging centage. Farrell was also the MVP of the 2012 Don Mattingly World Series, where he led his team to a National Title in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Granberg, a 6-2 right-handed hitting shortstop, is expected to battle for a spot in the Bluejays infield next season. Granberg batted .440 with four home runs and 26 RBIs in the spring of 2013 and also came on in relief to earn the win for Holy Family HS against Eaton in the 3A final. He has spent the summer playing for Diamond Club Blue, which on July 14 captured the immense Boulder National Invitational Tournament with a 12-2 win against Fairview. As a sophomore, Grannerg hit .608 with 23 extra-base hits.
A 6-2 left-handed pitcher from Totino-Grace HS in Shoreview, Minn., Leuty is a southpaw that helped the Eagles to a 16-8-1 record in 2012 and an appearance at the Class AAA state tournament. Ryan plays at the club level for the Minnesota Starz Mizuno. Ryan will get the opportunity to battle his brother, Matt, when the Bluejays face Nebraska.
Rounding out the 2015 class is Rogalla, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher from Oak Park & River Forest HS in Oak Park, Ill. Rogalla helped Oak Park and River Forest claim a share of the West Suburban Conference crown last season, leading the squad to a 16-9 overall mark and an 8-3 record in conference play. The ace of Illinois Indians summer league team, Rogalla is expected to be an immediate impact arm for the Bluejays.
