OMAHA, Neb. - Ty Blach turned in one of the best performances of his Bluejay career, throwing a complete 9.0 innings and leading the Bluejays to a 4-1 win over Dallas Baptist on Friday night.  Blach's second complete game of the season improves Creighton to 21-23 overall, while handing the Patriots their 16th loss of the year (34-16).

Creighton outhit the Patriots 6-5 in the opening game of the three-game series, with six different Bluejays picking up a single hit.  Scott Thornburg led the team with a pair of RBI and a run scored.

The two teams found themselves in a pitchers duel, as Blach matched DBU's Taylor Massey in the first three frames.  Each southpaw surrendered just one hit in the first three innings, Blach a double in the third and Massey a single to Brad McKewon in the first.

Both pitchers ran into trouble in their respective halves of the fourth inning.  With one out, Blach surrendered a single to Joel Hutter and then walked Ryan Behmanesh to put a pair of runners on base.  A ground out moved both runners into scoring position before Blach struck out Jaime Garrido swinging to end the threat.

Creighton took advantage of a pair of Massey walks to lead off the home half of the fourth, pushing across the first run of the game.  Nick Judkins was issued a four-pitch walk and advanced to second on an Anthony Bemboom sacrifice bunt.  Another four-pitch walk to Alex Staehely put a pair of runners on for Mike Gerber, who drove a single to right field to score Judkins.  Creighton led 1-0 after four complete.

The Bluejays rallied again in the bottom of the sixth inning, knocking Massey off the mound after putting a pair of runners on with no outs.  Bemboom led off the inning reaching safely on an error by the first baseman and Staehely reached on a sacrifice bunt, as the Patriots attempted to get Bemboom out at second.  An errant throw allowed both runners to stand on the bases safely.

Thornburg then hit his first triple of the season, driving a ball into right enter field that scored both base runners.  With the Patriots defense drawn in to cut the run at the plate, Jake Peter blooped a ball over the shortstop's head to score Thornburg and give Creighton the 4-0 lead after six complete.

Blach held the Patriots scoreless into the ninth inning.  With two outs and a runner on second, Blach induced a fly ball that hit off Peter's glove, allowing the runner at second to score the lone run of the game for DBU.

Creighton and Dallas Baptist will play each other in game two tomorrow night, with first pitch set for 7:00 pm from TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
