PEORIA, Ill. -- Maddie Ivy and Courtney Sawle both both broke Creighton's unofficial school record for a 6,000 meter race as the Bluejay cross country teams competed at the Bradley Classic on Friday evening.
Ivy finished 20th with a time of 21:39, while Sawle was 40th with a 21:57 clocking. Both times were better than the previous 6K mark in the recordbooks (since 1994) by Jessica Donner of 21:59 on Sept. 28, 2002.
Overall, the Creighton women finished 17th of 24 teams with a score of 472.
Besides Ivy and Sawle, Vanessa Miller finished third for the Jays. The Des Moines, Iowa, native finished 149th with a time of 23:13.
Bradley took the top spot on the men’s side and Missouri on the women’s. Individual runner Jordan Hebert of Illinois led the men’s field with a time of 24:07. Samantha Walkow finished first on the women’s side with a time of 20:45.
Among the teams in the Classic were host school Bradley, DePaul, Illinois State, Marquette, Wichita State, Northern Iowa and Drake.
The Jays will compete in their first BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2 in Somers, Wis.
