LINCOLN, Neb. -- Members of the Creighton men’s and women’s cross country teams were in action in several distance events in the Nebraska Tune-Up in Lincoln on Friday afternoon. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosted event featured in state schools Nebraska-Kearney, Nebraska-Omaha, Wayne State, and Missouri Valley rival Wichita State.
Freshman Katie Huyck and junior Izzy Squires finished 30th and 31st respectively in the one mile run. Huyck finished with a time of 5:52 and Squires ran the mile in 6:00. Kristin Brondbo of Augustana finished first running the mile in 4:53.
Freshman Courtney Sawle led the Bluejay women in the 3,000 meter run. She finished 12th with a time of 10:53. Meagan Wilderson was 14th with a time of 11:06, while sophomore Lauren Hintz finished 18th with a time of 11:24 and teammate Jessica Johnson finished one spot behind. The freshman finished the event in 11:29. Katie White of Nebraska was the top overall runner in the event finishing in 9:48.
As for the men, freshman Drew Prescott led the Bluejays in the one mile run. Prescott finished 28th overall running the mile in 4:30. Sophomore Danny Diaz finished 34th with a time of 4:43. Junior Tom Shimp time of 4:46 was good for 36th. Sophomore Jason Pang finished 37th with a time of 4:52. Adam Godwin of Oklahoma Baptist finished the mile first at 4:03.
Junior Chris Culhane was the top Bluejay in the 3,000 meter run. He finished 16th with a time of 8:52. Sophomore Joe Hamel finished with a time of 9:53, which was good for 33rd. Unattached runner David Adams' time of 7:59 earned him the top spot.
Senior Casey Jergenson was the lone Bluejay in the men’s 5,000 meter run. He finished 11th, running the event in 16:01. Unattached runner Matthew Pohren, a former Creighton volunteer coach, won the event with a time of 15:01.
