LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton women finished 12th and the men finished 18th at the 22nd annual Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational on Saturday morning at Pioneers Park in Lincoln. Twenty-five women's teams and 28 men's teams participated in the event. The University of Nebraska won the 25-team women's division while the Air Force Academy won the 28-club men's race.
For the second straight race freshman Courtney Sawle led the Bluejay women. Sawle finished 37th with a time of 23:06. Fellow freshman Meghan Barry finished seven spots behind with a time of 23:15. Meagan Wilderson was third to cross the line for the Jays. The sophomore ran the 6k course in 24:08.
In his first race of the fall campaign, junior Chris Culhane led the Creighton men. The Shawano, Wis., native finished 45th with a time of 26:32. Freshman Drew Prescott finished the 8k course in 27:42 good for 100th place. Casey Jergenson was the third-best Creighton runner. The senior from Omaha finished 115th with a time of 27:57.
Other Creighton finishers included junior Tom Shimp (118th, 28:00) and freshmen Steve Raimondi (122nd, 28:07), Quinn Biever (142nd, 28:57), Tin Nguyen (147th, 29:15) and Joe Hamel (216th, 29:18).
The teams will take the rest of September off before competing again Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky.
