SOMERS, Wis. -- The Creighton men and women’s cross country teams competed in their first BIG EAST Championships on Saturday in Somers, Wis. The Bluejay men finished seventh with a total score of 224. The women finished seventh as well with a score of 228.
CU's finish was its best women's ranking at a conference meet since taking sixth at the 2004 MVC Championships, while the men's placing was its best at a conference meet since a fourth-place showing at the 2007 MVC Championships.
Villanova took the top spot on the men’s side and Providence on the women’s. Patrick Tiernan of Villanova led the men’s field with a time of 23:51. Providence’s Emily Sisson, a former Nebraska state champion at Omaha Marian, finished first on the women’s side with a course-record time of 19:49.
Maddie Ivy led the Bluejay women. The freshman finished 36th with a time of 22:32. Junior Courtney Sawle finished 40th clocking in at 22:56. Vanessa Miller finished third for the Jays. The Des Moines native finished 46th with a time of 23:38.
Once again sophomore Garrett Kenyon led the Bluejay men. The Colorado native finished 31st with a time of 26:08. Junior Drew Prescott finished with a time of 26:33 and placed 38th. Patrick Reinschmidt rounded out the Jays top three. The freshman finished 48th clocking in at 27:06.
The Jays will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships Nov. 15 in Ames, Iowa.
