OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team can re-write the script for the 2012 season as the Jays begin play in the 2012 MVC Tournament at Drake on Sunday, Oct. 28.  With a victory Creighton returns home to host the semifinals and finals of the MVC Tournament at Morrison Stadium on Nov. 2 and 4.

Last Week:

This Week:
10/25: L, 0-1 at Northern Iowa, Cedar Valley Soccer Complex
10/29: at Drake, Cownie Soccer Complex, MVC Quarterfinals

Creighton in the MVC Tournament

Creighton is 13-1-2 in its first match of the MVC Tournament, whether it be the opening round or the semi-final round.  The Jays have only played in the opening round of the tournament six other times, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2009 and 2011.  Overall in tournament, play the Jays hold a 19-8-4 record and two tournament titles.

The Jays have clinched a spot in the MVC Tournament for the 16th straight season.  Creighton enters the tournament as the three seed, finishing conference regular season play in third for the sixth time, second in the last three years.  The top two seeds will get an opening round bye in the MVC Tournament, while seeds three through six will play in the opening round, played at individual school sites.  The semifinals and final match will be played in Morrison Stadium on November 2nd and 4th.

vs. Drake
Creighton leads the series between the two schools 8-6-0, including a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs last season in Des Moines. Earlier this season, the Bulldogs defeated the Jays in Morrison Stadium, 3-2, on Oct. 11. The two teams have met three times in the post season, with Creighton winning all three matches (a 1-0, double overtime win in 2003, a 3-1 win in 2004 and a 1-0 victory in 2005.)

Scouting the Creighton Bluejays (3-12-2, 0-6-0 MVC):
The Bluejays are eager for a chance to restart the 2012 season as the MVC Tournament begins on Sunday at Drake.

Despite an 0-6-0 mark in conference play, Creighton has outshot MVC opponents 94-62 this season and holds a 41-19 edge in corner kicks.

Senior Brittney Neumann remains out front offensively for the Jays offensively with six goals as 13 points on the season.

Senior Katie Jo Swanson has been in net for Creighton every second this season, surrendering 29 goals in 17 matches for a 1.64 Goals Against Average (GAA).

Scouting the Drake Bulldogs (12-5-2, 3-1-2):
Drake enters the MVC Tournament looking for a bit of redemption themselves as the Bulldogs went 0-1-1 in their final two MVC matches to allow the championships slip through their fingers.

Drake bested Creighton 3-2 on Oct. 11, but were outshot by the Jays 22-10 in the contest.

Drake has been steadied all season in goal by junior Kalena Litch, who has won the MVC Goalkeeper of the Week Award four times this season. Litch has played every second for the Bulldogs, collected seven shutouts. She has allowed 19 goals in 19 matches to amass an 0.97 GAA.

Offensively Drake turns to sophomore Ashlie Stokes, junior Generve Charles and senior Laura Mokelstad. That trio has combined for 18 goals, including nine game-winners. The group also has a combined seven assists for a total of 43 points on the year.  As a team the Bulldogs have recorded 77 points.

Turning Possession into Points
While time of possession is not an official statistic in the NCAA, shots and corners are often a good measure.  Creighton has outshot five of their six MVC opponents this season and enter the MVC Tournament with a 94-62 lead in shots in conference play.  The Jays have also won the battle in corners, having created 41 corners, while surrendering just 19 in MVC action.

On the Prowl

Creighton will enter the MVC Tournament as the No. 6 seed. Despite the Bluejays struggles this season, Creighton needs just one win in the quarterfinals to return home as the Jays host the MVC Tournament in Morrison Stadium.
