OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team suffered its fifth 1-0 loss of the season, falling to Evansville on Saturday, Oct. 20.
Following the loss the Jays are 3-11-2 on the season and 0-5-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). Evansville, meanwhile, improved to 5-7-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the MVC.
Evansville was the aggressor early in the match as the Aces posted four shots in the opening 15 minutes. From that point, however, it was Creighton who controlled the match. The Jays peppered Evansville with nine shots in the final 30 minutes of the half and created three corner kicks. The Jays' best chance to score came at 22:43 as freshman Kaelyn Korte just missed a goal, hitting the crossbar instead.
Creighton held a 9-6 shot edge as the game went to halftime knotted at 0-0.
The second half followed an all too familiar script for the 2012 squad as the Bluejays dominated possession and finished with a 25-9 advantage on shots taken. Unfortunately it was Evansville that converted one of its three shots in the second half, scoring in the 79th minute.
Stephanie Thompson delivered the goal for the Aces as she beat junior Kelsey O'Donnell down the middle of the field and fired a shot from 15 yards past senior keeper Katie Jo Swanson into the left back corner of the net.
The loss was Creighton's fifth 1-0 loss in 2012 and the seventh loss by one goal this season.
Creighton returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 25 as the Bluejays close out the regular-season on the road at Northern Iowa at 7:00 p.m.
