OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton Women's Soccer squad looks to continue its dominance of this weeks opponents, South Dakota State and Oral Roberts. The Jays are 9-0-2 against the Jackrabbits and Golden Eagles.
Scouting the Creighton Bluejays (2-5-2):
The Jays battled UMKC to a tie in their lone game last week, 1-1 (2ot) on Thursday, Sept. 13.
The Jays fired a season high 23 shots in the 1-1 draw with UMKC last Thursday, led by seven shots from senior Brittney Neumann and five from junior Kelsey O’Donnell. O’Donnell scored the Jays goal in the match, connecting on her first shot of the day.
On the season, Neumann has paced the Jays with three goals and an assist to lead the squad in goals and points (7). Junior Kelsey O’Donnell and freshman Jill Richgels have started to contribute more over the past few matches. O’Donnell has two goals in her last four matches, while Richgels has chipped in three assists in the last three contests.
Senior keeper Katie Jo Swanson set a career-high with 13 saves in the Bluejays’ 1-1 draw with UMKC. Swanson faced a season-high 26 shots by the Roos, including 22 in the second half and overtime periods. Over her last two matches, Swanson has set a career-high for saves in consecutive outings, posting 11 saves against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday, Sept. 9. In those two outings, Swanson has allowed just two goals, despite facing 48 shots. She has lowered her season Goals Against Average to 1.69 and has an .807 save percentage.
Scouting the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (2-5-1): The Jackrabbits split two matches last weekend, falling 2-1 to Iowa State (Sept. 14) and downing Northern Iowa 4-0 (Sept. 16).
The victory over Northern Iowa was the first win for SDSU since the season opener, when the beat UW-Green Bay, 2-0 on Aug. 17.
Junior Darcy Miller leads the offense for the Jackrabbits with three goals this season. Eight other South Dakota State players have at least one point in 2012.
Sophomore Elisa Stamatakis has started each match for SDSU this season, posting a 2.08 GAA in just under 700 minutes.
Scouting the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (2-5-2): The Golden Eagles enter the weekend on a three match unbeaten streak. Oral Roberts battled Tulsa to a 1-1 tie on Sept. 14 and bested Mississippi Valley, 4-0, on Sept. 16. The unbeaten streak began with a 1-0 win at Oklahoma on Sept. 9.
Three players share the point lead for ORU through nine matches as sophomore Megan Giles and freshmen Kayla Keller and Ashley Martin each have seven points this season.
In goal the Golden Eagles have split time between sophomore Helen Erb and freshman Maddie Rhodes. Erb has started eight matches, posting a 0.74 GAA, while nabbing 46 saves.
