SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - For the second straight season, Creighton women's soccer player Erin Gunther has been named to the All-Tournamnet team. After converting the match winning penalty kick in last year's final, the senior has again earned the award following her play in the quarterfinal tie against Northern Iowa.
Gunther turned into one of the toughest and most respected playmakers in the Missouri Valley in her four years as a Bluejay, earning MVC first team honors this season following Creighton's 9-6-3 finish. She scored a goal and dished off four assists this season, good for six points, third most on the team. Gunther was also a big part of a defense that finished third in the league with a 1.16 goals against average.
"Erin was solid all year long for us," said head coach Bruce Erickson on Sunday. "While she didn't score the goals for us that she did last year, she was great in every other area."
A 2010 MVC honorable mention pick, Gunther finihsed last season with a career-high eight goals, including an MVC-best four game-winning goals. She was also named to the MVC All-Freshman Team in 2008 after starting 16 of the 19 matches in which she appeared.
