OMAHA, Neb. - A steady rain fell at Morrison Stadium on Saturday, but Andrea Zuniga didn't let it spoil senior day for her and eight other seniors, as Creighton posted a 1-0 win over Indiana State in their final home match of the 2011 regular season.  Zuniga notched the lone goal in the match for the Bluejays in the 67th minute of play, her fifth of the season.  Creighton improves to 9-5-2 on the season and remains unbeated in MVC play 4-0-1.

Creighton honored nine seniors prior to the match, thanking the group for their four years in the Bluejay program.  The group has now combined for a 49-21-7 record, including a Creighton record 15 wins last season, and has now posted eight shutouts this season, improving their four-year total to 36.

"The match was really a tale of two halves," said head coach Bruce Erickson.  "I was more surprised it took us a whole half to play the way we finished.  We came out in the second half with a different approach, really trying to go after them.  Indiana State really made it tough on us, but we found some inspiration and got things going finally."

The Jays and Sycamores played a scoreless first half, with just four combined shots taken in the frame.  Zuniga took the only shot for the Jays in the half, while Alicia Montgomery did not record a single save in the opening frame.

As noted by Erickson, Creighton came out more aggressive offensively in the second half, rifling off two shots and taking two corner kicks in the opening six minutes of play.  The Jays notched the lone goal of the match in the 67th minute of play.  After a clear from the Indiana State defense, Gabriela Guillen knocked a ball out to Zuniga, who drove a shot into the upper left corner of the net, threading it just under the crossbar.  The goal marks Zuniga's fifth of the season.

The Jays then were put on the defensive, holding off multiple late Sycamore shots to preserve the win.  Montgomery picked up her sixth shutout of the season, 21st of her Bluejay career.

"Overall, I am very pleased with the way we responded and played today.  Now we focus on improving for our next match at Illinois State."

Creighton will now travel to Indiana State for the final match of the 2011 regular season.  With a win or a tie, the Jays will earn one of the top two seeds in the MVC Tournament, scheduled to start with the quarterfinal rounds on October 30.  It would also put the Jays in contention for their second straight MVC regular season title.
