ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the second time this season and the fourth in her Bluejay career, senior goalkeeper Alicia Montgomery has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the Valley on Tuesday. It marks the third straight week the 6-4-1 Jays have had a player pick up a weekly honor (Brittney Neumann anad Shonna Fraser earned offensive and defensive honors, respectively).
Mongtomery recorded another strong performance in goal in Creighton's lone match last week, posting seven saves and holding off an aggressive Evansville comeback attempt in the second half to pick up her fourth win of the season in Creighton's 2-1 win over the Purple Aces. Montgomery saw the Jays get up 2-0 early, but would be tested in the second half.
After the Purple Aces scored in the 55th minute, Montgomery preserved the win by playing shutout soccer in goal the rest of the match. She sits second in the conference (just behind teammate Katie Jo Swanson) in goals against average this season, posting a 0.82 GAA in 547 minutes of play, allowing just five goals on the season. The senior has posted four shutouts, bring her total to 19 in her career, third on the all-time list. She is 4-3-1 in goal this season.
