NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Creighton women's soccer team was tabbed to finish ninth in the BIG EAST preseason coaches poll released on Wednesday, Aug. 7.  The Bluejays finished the 2012 season with a 3-13-3 overall record and a 0-6-0 mark in their final season as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Heading into the 2013 season, Creighton remains a very young team, as 18 players on the squad are either a freshman or sophomore. Despite their youth, the Jays return significant experience to the starting core as seven women started at least 10 matches last season.  Senior Kelsey O'Donnell and sophomore Jill Richgels are the two returning Bluejays with multiple goals last season.  O'Donnell finished with two goals (four points), while Richgels is Creighton's leading scorer to return, notching two goals and team-high three assists in 2012 (seven points).

"Our goal is to be in postseason play in Novemebr, obviously we have work to do," said Creighton head coach Bruce Erickson.

Marquette, the 2012 BIG EAST Championship titlist, was picked to the win the 2013 BIG EAST women’s soccer regular-season crown.  The Preseason All-BIG EAST Team also was announced.  Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Georgetown swept the individual preseason honors with Daphne Corboz earning BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Emily Menges taking Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and Emma Newins claiming Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.
