Fayetteville, Ark. - Despite an impressive showing, the Creighton women's soccer team fell to Arkansas (RV) 2-1 in the first exhibition contest of 2014 on Thursday, Aug. 14. Thursday's contest marked the first game broadcast on the SEC Network+ as the network began broadcasting at 5 pm.
Arkansas struck first with a goal in the 22nd minute by Lindsey Mayo. Katherine Moore notched the assist as she centered the ball to Mayo.
Down a goal, the Bluejays rallied in the closing moments of the first half as junior Kirstyn Corder (Overland Park, Kan.) knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 38th minute, heading in a pass from the right by sophomore Emily Roll (Gretna, Neb.). The contest remained tied into the break.
Battling a physical SEC team, on the road, in the midst of the bright lights brought by the SEC Network the Bluejays gave Arkansas everything the Razorbacks could handle. The second half was much of the same as the two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1 into the 65th minute.
At 64:59 Arkansas reclaimed the lead on a 40 foot shot from Taylor Allen that bounced over Creighton keeper, sophomore Michaela Moen (Frisco, Texas).
The Bluejays had a couple of chances in the final ten minutes to pull even, but Arkansas reserve keeper Jordan Harries nabbed four saves to deny the Jays.
Creighton was outshot in the match, 21-8. Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle Rice (Westlake, Texas), who played the first 45 minutes, led the Bluejays with six saves.
The Bluejays return to action on Saturday, Aug. 16 as Creighton faces Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. at 7 pm.
