VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Creighton women's soccer team fell to Villanova, 2-0, on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The loss dropped Creighton to 9-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in BIG EAST play. Villanova moved to 6-6-3 on the season and 3-2-1 in BIG EAST action.
Creighton fell behind early as the Wildcats scored in the fourth minute of play. Villanova's Katie Martin center a ball from 10-yards inside the corner to Emily Damstrom, she quickly sent a crossing shot from right to left to beat Creighton goalkeeper Danielle Rice. It was Damstrom's first goal of the season.
The score remained at 1-0 through halftime, then Damstrom notched another goal early in the second period, converting a corner play in the 55th minute.
Despite allowing two goals, Rice recorded 10 saves in the loss. Villanova's keeper, Jami Kranich, need three saves in her fourth shutout of 2013.
The Bluejays were outshot 16-7 in the match, while each team created six corners.
"We're disappointed with the result today, but it certainly wasn't a lack of effort," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "We lacked composure against a physical team today. We will get better and move on to Sunday."
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 20 as the Bluejays battle Georgetown at 12 pm (CT).
